Tetris Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event approaches, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
